This life thus far has led me to the undeniable fact that I'm a sucker for a drum circles.
Myself and my LA family often head to the seaside for a therapeutic sunset sesh. Weekends are particularly special because the beach features a Drum Circle set against the backdrop of a pastel sky. I'm guaranteed to be somewhere in the midst gettin' on down to funk town.
The drum circle attracts people from all walks of life. A vastly eclectic bunch of people brought together by raw tribal music, dance, sand between their toes, the salty ocean breeze and good vibrations. The best things in life really are free. It's so wonderful that in a big city like LA where it's easy to feel isolated and a little lost, you can find people from all walks of life coming together through music. A man named Mike acts as the unofficial leader of the gathering. You're encouraged to bring along an instrument or anything that makes a sound and get amongst it. Follow the rhythm and become a small part in making the beach come alive.
I highly recommend you check it out. You will not walk away without a full heart and a smile you can't shake off.
Where and when: Saturday and Sunday at Venice beach from around 3-sundown. Get yourself to the infamous skatepark ... look out to sea and walk right along the beach. On our last adventure we saw a pod of dolphins and a seal frolicking in the shallows. Follow the music, magic await!
